Bract Runner star Edward James Olmos says he ad-libbed the movie's nearly iconic line and was surprised Ridley Scott didn't terminate up cutting it. Olmos starred in the cult classic 1982 sci-fi movie equally Gaff, a fellow Blade Runner in the same section every bit Harrison Ford's Rick Deckard. Olmos goes on to explain why he advertizing-libbed the line, revealing he was the "just one" who knew that Deckard was a replicant, and felt it was a subtle hint at the graphic symbol'south truthful nature. AV Club: Yous also just have ane of the best lines in a fantastic film: "It's too bad she won't alive, merely then again, who does?"

Olmos: I wrote that. Information technology was really fun. I just couldn't believe when he left information technology in.

AV Club: Oh wow, I didn't know that!

Olmos: Yeah. Information technology's a wonderful line. "Information technology's too bad she won't live, simply then once more, who does?" And "You've done a man'southward job, sir." I think that was i of the lines that they wrote. "You've done a human being's task." And and then I go walking away and I go, "Besides bad she won't live, but then over again, who does?" I knew that [Deckard] was a replicant. Encounter, I'1000 the only one that did at that moment in time. The very terminal moment that Deckard'south on screen—they changed it when they got into editing, but they went back to the original. At that place are 4 or five different cuts, but if you lot go to [Ridley Scott'due south] concluding cut, at the stop when Deckard's leaving his firm and Rachel goes into the lift, he looks down and sees the origami unicorn. He realizes [Gaff] was there. Because that origami is something that I made; it was my signature. For audiences, it's clear why Scott would have wanted to keep the line inBract Runner, every bit it actually is a succinct and poetic encapsulation of the movie's central themes. Clearly, though, every bit a young actor still near the beginning of his career, Olmos was worried that he might take added in something that Scott wouldn't take wanted.
